VERTIGO

Endurance performance filmed on the cliffs at North Bondi, June, 2009

Throughout one day, for an hour at a time (the length of a film tape), the artist lay on the edge of the cliff looking down. Vertigo was a confrontation with the artist’s fear of heights, as well as a portrayal of the coastline as a limitation, rather than a view to oblivion.

Vertigo was the first performance in the ocean section of Water Series. Its showing at MOP in February 2011 marked the Australian debut of this series of multi-disciplinary performances inspired by the fundamental substance of water. Water Series continued at Artspace in November 2011, where Vertigo screened as a multi-channel video installation.

Also shown/performed at Artspace were photographs from Tidal Walk, as well as three live works, each leaving trace installations.
